Safer gambling
Your wellbeing comes first
Need to talk now?
Football Edge provides football research and analysis for adults aged 18 and over. Our purpose is to help people understand the information behind a selection, including its limitations. Using our service should never put your finances, health or relationships at risk.
Football Edge does not accept bets or hold betting funds. Any gambling takes place separately with the operator you choose. A Football Edge membership is a payment for analysis, not a promise of winnings.
No selection is certain
Our probabilities are estimates. Models can be wrong, data can be incomplete and football results are unpredictable. A high estimated probability does not make a bet safe or profitable. Past results, win rates and returns do not guarantee what happens next.
There is no obligation to place a bet, follow every selection or gamble every day. Choosing not to bet is always an option. Never increase your gambling to try to recover losses or justify the cost of a subscription.
Recognising when to step back
Gambling can cause harm even before someone feels that they have lost control. Warning signs can include spending more money or time than intended, borrowing to gamble, trying to win back losses, hiding gambling, or finding that it affects sleep, mood, work or relationships.
If you choose to gamble, decide your limits in advance and protect the money you need for everyday living. Do not use borrowed money or money needed for bills. Limits and analysis cannot remove the risk of harm. If gambling is causing concern, take a break and speak to someone who can help.
Independent support
You do not have to wait until things become severe to ask for help. Support is available if you are worried about your own gambling or someone else's.
- Great Britain: call the National Gambling Helpline, operated by GamCare, on 0808 8020 133. It offers free, confidential support around the clock. You can also contact GamCare online.
- Northern Ireland: Dunlewey's gambling support service offers help for people affected by gambling. Call its Northern Ireland helpline on 08000 886 725, available 24 hours a day.
- Emotional support: Samaritans is available free on 116 123, day or night. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
Tools to help you stop or take a break
GAMSTOP provides free self-exclusion from online gambling accounts with operators licensed in Great Britain. Gamban provides software to block access to gambling websites and apps on your devices. Check Gamban's current pricing and support options directly.
You can also ask your bank about gambling-payment blocks and ask a gambling operator about its own limits, breaks and exclusion options. Different tools cover different activities; no single tool blocks every form of gambling.
Managing your Football Edge membership does not close betting accounts or register you with GAMSTOP. Equally, a gambling self-exclusion does not automatically cancel your Football Edge subscription. Use the relevant services separately, and seek support if you need help deciding what to do.
Help for friends and family
Someone else's gambling can affect you too. GamCare, Gam-Anon and GamFam provide routes to support for people affected by another person's gambling. The directory below also includes treatment, peer support and debt advice.
Football Edge is not a counselling, treatment or emergency service. The organisations listed provide independent support; listing them does not imply that they endorse Football Edge.
